I'M HERE!
Joy in God's Presence

A Commentary by Constance Vanides

“‘Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son,
and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is translated, ‘God with us.’”

(Matthew 1:23)

“I’m here!” My beloved husband of many years announced gleefully. Where had he been? Only upstairs, while I was in the kitchen downstairs, baking something special to please him. The delightful odors must have wafted into his office where he had spent hours trying to solve some computer-related problem.

“I’m here!” Tom repeated as he eyed the goodies coming out of the oven. His special hug showed he was pleased and happy to see me again. God was showing me something of Himself through my husband, as He often does.

Isn’t that just like God! When we’re busy about our work, studies, even our play, the Holy Spirit speaks up to remind us He’s been around all the time! He not only wants to let us know, but also wants to join with us in whatever we’re doing, in our work, our joys, or even in our sorrows.

“I’m here!” He says. We acknowledge “Immanuel” this Christmas. His name tells us who He is: “God with us.” Take time from what preoccupies you and welcome Him with open arms!

YOU ARE MINE

You are not alone.
I am always with you,
loving and caring for you.
I have been with you
from the beginning
and will continue by your side.
Recognize this for yourself, beloved.
Spend your thought time with Me.
Concern yourself not with
what is unavailable for now.
See Me in all you say and do.
My response will be one
of joy for us both.
